Digital Asset Management in the Real World
DAS
2011
offers in-depth, real world information on an ever-advancing technology.
Case studies will offer a mix of broadcasting, national archives, studios
and educational institutions, providing a unique opportunity to compare
approaches in different communities. This real-life approach will bring
content creators, caretakers and vendors together to address the realities
with which we are all faced, what works in theory, and what works in
the real world.
Previous
case studies have included NBC Universal, Warner Bros., BBC Scotland,
National Geographic Television, Swedish National Archive, Democracy
Now! and WNET.
Proposal
Criteria:
Presentations/Case Studies
Be an implementation
of a digital asset management system for moving images or related (film,
sound, video, etc) and use the framework of the lifecycle of a digital
asset as a guide.
The structure
of the program:
......
1)
Creation of the asset (born digital, digitized, format, resolution etc)
......
2)
Metadata (created throughout the workflow; preservation, ......
......
technical,
descriptive metadata; ingesting legacy data; data
......
embedded in files)
......
3)
Infrastructure (nuts and bolts, storage, climate control)
......
4)
Access (distribution, etc)
Has to be either recently completed (roughly within the last six months)
or almost completed (60% or more).
No vendor presentations. Vendors may participate as part of the presentation,
but not as primary presentor.
We would look to have two presenters per case study, with each speaker
representing different responsibilities on a project. For example, a
case study could have an archivist and someone from technology speaking
about how they worked together to implement a project. Each presentation
would be about 45 minutes, allowing for 30-35 minutes presentation and
10-15 minutes Q&A.
